Yosemite. What do I say about this brilliant shining gem of a park? Yosemite felt like the perfect way to cap off this year of parks because as far as parks go, it will always hold a special place in my heart. Not only is it the first national park I ever visited as a child, it was the muse for my senior thesis as a history major in college, and to this day it remains my favorite park.

The feeling is mutual for yarn dyer Jay at Arkaik Fibres. Growing up with Yosemite in his backyard, he’s also a big fan, which is why he immediately asked if he could dye this month’s color.  He designed this color as an homage to Yosemite’s winter view: gray granite, white snow, blue skies and sun bouncing off the tall walls of El Capitan. Find the yarn to knit this pattern here.

At my husband’s request, this hat has an old-school toboggan hat feel with earflaps, cables, and a big pom to top it off. The design is surprisingly fun and simple to knit. And, if the toboggan style doesn’t suit, it’s easily modified to be a traditional beanie.
